On Saturday, May 25th I delivered a sermon at Enfield SDA Church’s Children’s Day  titled “Me and My Big Mouth,”  This message explored the profound lessons found in Proverbs 18 and examined the impactful story of Jephthah, highlighting the significance of our words.

Proverbs 18 serves as a powerful reminder of the influence our speech can wield, illustrating that our words can lead to both life and death. Through the narrative of Jephthah, the sermon shed light on the consequences of rash vows and hasty statements, urging the congregation to use their words thoughtfully to uplift and heal.

Key scripture references included Proverbs 21:23, which reminds us:

  • “Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.”
  • “Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.”
  • “Watch your tongue and keep your mouth shut, and you will stay out of trouble.”

This sermon emphasised the importance of guarding our speech as a pathway to a more peaceful and meaningful life. The congregation was encouraged to reflect on their words and their impact on those around them.
