Celebrating the Success of the UCY Education and Careers Day
I have been busy working with my team to organise the inaugural UCY Education and Careers Day. It was held at Balham SDA Community Church Hall on Sunday 10th of November 2024, was an inspiring and impactful event, bringing together young people, community members, and industry professionals to explore new pathways for education and career advancement. We were thrilled to see a vibrant community gathering focused on unlocking potential, gaining insights, and sparking aspirations.
The day was kicked off with an outstanding keynote speech by Mark De-Lisser, whose inspirational words set the tone for the event. Mark’s message of confidence and resilience resonated deeply with attendees, encouraging them to pursue their dreams with purpose and passion.

Throughout the day, our lineup of remarkable presenters delivered sessions packed with practical advice and guidance. Layne Robinson, Susanne Kirlew, Claudia Welsh, Rowlando Morgan, Mark Grey, and Barbara McLaughlin each shared valuable knowledge and insights, providing our audience with tips on advancing their education and career goals. Their presentations covered a wide range of topics, from economic insights to wealth management, offering something valuable for every attendee.

The event also featured a diverse array of exhibitors who showcased resources and services aimed at supporting educational and career development. Our exhibitors included Adventist Credit Union, Carmel Greystone, B Empowered A1, Full Circle Economics, Newbold College, Kirly Sue's Kitchen, Leicala Natural Products, Missing Link Tuition, All Tingz Jamaican, and The Cute and the Curious. Each exhibitor contributed to an engaging and informative experience, connecting attendees with tools and resources for their future endeavours.
Our engaging panel discussion, moderated by the excellent Paul Edwards, brought presenters Christopher Roberts, Kaydean Green, Astor Tate, and Layne Robinson to the stage, where they shared their experiences and offered advice on overcoming challenges in both education and careers. The panel was a highlight of the day, providing real-world wisdom and actionable guidance.

To cap off the day’s success, participants from the singing workshop led by Mark De-Lisser gave a spirited performance, showcasing the talent and confidence they had built throughout the session.

Attendees enjoyed a delicious meal provided by Luperias Catering, whose culinary talent added a delightful touch to the event, keeping everyone energized and satisfied throughout the day.

We are grateful to everyone who attended, participated, and volunteered their time and effort. A special thank you goes out to our dedicated UCY team, whose hard work behind the scenes made this day possible.
